good books on forgiveness or anger?

Question: I was wondering if you knew where I could find a great list of books dealing with forgiveness and anger? I ask, simply because you seem so resourceful and hit all the good conferences and info spots out there. If you know, I’d appreciate it or being pointed in the right direction.

djchuang >> I don’t readily know of books on forgiveness or anger, not that I don’t need help in those areas, but that I haven’t read books specific on this. Like other mortals, I’d search through the amazon.com catalog and see what looks good.

Based on reputation, Total Forgiveness by R. T. Kendall, looks to be a thoughtful treatment on forgiveness. And, if you have theological latitude, The Shack by William P. Young is a great perspective on dealing with the unideals of life. The best sermons I’ve heard about forgiveness are by Tim Keller, my bias noted. Here’s a handful of sermons from the Redeemer Store about forgiveness.

Anything you would add? Know of any good books on anger and/or forgiveness?

Reading and loving the Dance of Anger by Harriet Lerner. Secular book, but amazing and a bestseller on women and the journey of anger.

The Sacred Art Of Forgiveness by Marcia Ford
The Angry Christian by Andrew Lester

I can think of no single book, but the works of Henri Nouwen have some wonderful reflections on forgiveness. He wrote with such spiritual maturity and Nouwen's works are all greatly informed by his background as a therapist. When doing any kind of inner work, Nouwen is always a great help.

I believe this person may also benefit, as I have, from a bit of reading on Emotional Intelligence — author Daniel Coleman is a good place to start.

Anger – the power the Emotion by Gary Chapman (5 love languages) is exceptional…
when you've been wronged by Erwin Lutzer
Choosing Forgiveness by Nancy Leigh DeMoss
and a different angle – Joseph: A man of Integrity and Forgiveness by Charles Swindoll.

All of these are very helpful, and thought provoking…

My favorite book on forgiveness (and, as a psychologist, I've read a lot) is by Lewis Smedes – Forgive and Forget. He's written an updated version called The Art of Forgiving.

What I like so much about his book is that is differentiates between forgiveness and reconciliation – how forgiveness is something you do inside your heart – letting the grudge go, but reconciliation may require total repentance on the part of the perpetrator. His writing it easy to understand, flows well and is brilliant.
